Multisim Live is Shutting Down: What You Need to Do

NI has announced the impending shutdown of Multisim Live on September 15, 2026. Here's a step-by-step guide to saving your work and migrating to a free alternative.

Critical Deadlines

  • August 1, 2026: Existing active subscriptions are terminated.
  • September 15, 2026: Final EOL (End of Life). The site goes offline permanently.

For years, Multisim Live has been a staple in engineering education, offering a browser-based SPICE environment that eliminated the need for heavy desktop software installations. However, with the recent announcement of its impending shutdown in September 2026, thousands of students, educators, and hobbyists are scrambling for alternatives.

If you have an active account, your priority right now should be securing your data. After September 15, there is no guaranteed recovery option for your circuit designs.

Step 1: Export Your Circuits Immediately

Do not wait until the final week. We strongly recommend exporting your circuits immediately.

  1. Log into your Multisim Live account.
  2. Navigate to My Circuits.
  3. Open each circuit you wish to keep.
  4. In the top toolbar, select the Document Options (gear icon) or the File menu.
  5. Select Export and choose your preferred format (e.g., Multisim 14 file, or PNG for visual reference).

Note: If you plan to rebuild these circuits in another simulator, taking high-resolution screenshots of the schematics and writing down specific component values (resistance, capacitance) is highly recommended.

Step 2: Transition to CircuitForge

While there are several desktop SPICE simulators available, if you want to maintain the convenience of a browser-based tool without paying subscription fees, we recommend transitioning to CircuitForge.

2D Schematics & 3D Views

Like Multisim, CircuitForge offers a clean, industry-standard 2D schematic mode for drawing circuits, plus an immersive 3D visualization option.

Nonlinear DC Solver

Powered by a real-time Newton-Raphson engine, CircuitForge accurately simulates nonlinear components like diodes and transistors, making it SPICE-capable.

Why choose CircuitForge?

  • It\'s entirely free: There are no paywalls or subscription tiers.
  • Browser-based: Like Multisim Live, it runs entirely in your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari) with no installation required.
  • No account required to start: You only need to create a free account if you want to save your work to the cloud or share it via a link.
  • Educational focus: It includes an integrated AI assistant that can help explain why a circuit isn\'t working or teach you about specific component behaviors.

Ready to try it out?

You don\'t need to create an account or download anything to see if CircuitForge will work for your classes.
